A career transition across countries can be difficult when you know your experience, but not how to present it in a different hiring market.
I worked with H.T. during two important career transitions: first, when changing jobs in the U.S., and later, when returning to Japan.
The coaching covered self-analysis, resume and cover letter preparation, company research and interview preparation. The focus was on helping him understand his strengths, communicate his experience effectively and make career decisions that reflected his own goals.
One point that stood out was the importance of understanding how hiring practices differ between countries. A resume that works in one market may need a very different approach in another.
Through the coaching process, H.T. was able to secure a new role at a major U.S. financial institution and later transition to a Japanese company while still living in the U.S.
His experience is a useful example of how career coaching can help professionals navigate international job markets with greater clarity and confidence.
This is also an area I am continuing to develop through TM HR Advisory & Coaching ANZ, where we support individuals with career planning, professional development and the transition from education into the international workplace.
