World mental health day

With World Mental Health Day tomorrow, I’ve been thinking about one of the things that helps me maintain my own balance: running.

Last week, I took part in the Sapporo Half Marathon and I loved seeing my daughters participate in the 3K run as well.

Preparing for a race and getting through the distance requires consistency, patience and a willingness to keep going, even when things become difficult. I find that running gives me time to step away from work, clear my head and create some space to think.

That’s important. Work can become demanding, priorities can change and it is easy to move from one task to the next without taking time to reset.

For me, running, spending time with family and getting outside are simple ways to maintain that balance. No matter where in the world I travel, keeping up my running routine helps me stay grounded and focused.

Mental health looks different for everyone, but finding the activities and routines that help you stay well is important.

As World Mental Health Day approaches, it is worth making time for those things that help us maintain our wellbeing, both at work and outside it.
