KPMG’s latest Work Environment Discovery findings highlight something many of us in global HR are seeing every day.
Global mobility is becoming a key part of how organisations plan for skills, develop people and stay competitive across markets.
A few points stood out to me:
1. Strategic workforce planning is rising in priority
Companies want to prepare for future skills, but many are still early in building the processes. Mobility can help by showing where talent sits and how it can move.
2. Skills-based thinking is growing
More organisations are focusing on skills, not job titles. Mobility plays a useful role when global assignments, hybrid setups and short projects support development.
3. Cross-border hiring is increasing
Accessing wider talent pools is becoming important, yet many are unsure how to structure this. Mobility’s guidance on feasibility and compliance is essential.
4. Traditional mobility topics still need work
Assignments, business travel and cross-border remote work remain areas where many see room for improvement.
Overall, the direction is clear. Mobility has an opportunity to support broader talent goals and help organisations move the right people, with the right skills, to the right places.
