ANNOUCEMENT

I spoke in the Japan Overseas Enterprises Association seminar on Understanding the Reality of HR Operations in Overseas Subsidiaries last week

Last week, I facilitated a seminar hosted by the Japan Overseas Enterprises Association on “Understanding the Reality of HR Operations in Overseas Subsidiaries.”

The session brought together global HR leaders, global HR practitioners and overseas business management leaders. The discussions were grounded in real situations faced by Japanese companies abroad.

The seminar covered key themes in HR, including:
– Recent shifts in HR roles and responsibilities at overseas subsidiaries
– Expectations placed on local HR teams as operations expand
– Practical cases showing common challenges in: human resource management, compensation and treatment, labor management
– Actions required from both headquarters and local subsidiaries to address these issues

A consistent theme across the discussions was that many companies share the same underlying challenges, even if the circumstances differ. The issues look different on the surface, but the underlying patterns are often the same. When these are understood clearly, it becomes much easier to unlock progress and support local teams in a meaningful way.

Thank you to everyone who took part. The level of engagement throughout the discussions showed how deeply this topic matters, especially as more Japanese companies continue to expand globally.
