Shifting to agentic AI

IBM’s latest report gives us a picture of what’s ahead, and what’s demanded of HR leaders.

The report highlights a shift from automation tools to agentic AI—intelligent systems that don’t just respond, but act, forecast and recommend. In HR functions like recruitment, talent acquisition and self-service, many organizations are preparing to augment human work with AI agents.

The projected gains are compelling: up to a 35% increase in productivity, 30% better training effectiveness and 20% higher retention. But these aren’t guaranteed outcomes. Success depends on how organizations handle change—reskilling, evolving roles, embedding trust.

For HR leaders and executives alike, the question is no longer if, but how fast and how well we adapt.
