The recent IBM State of HR article highlights something I’ve been thinking about for some time: the need for a clear AI vision before diving into tools and use cases.
Many companies today are experimenting with small AI applications. These experiments are useful and can create value, but the bigger conversation is still missing. We rarely hear serious discussions about how AI and humans should work together in the long term, or what role AI should play in the future of work.
The conversation needs to move beyond “what tool should we use” and “how do we implement it.” We also need to ask “why” and “to what end.” A clear vision for AI’s role in HR and the workplace should come first. Strategy, responsibilities and human-AI collaboration must be defined before deciding which specific solutions to adopt.
It is an important moment for HR and leadership to take the lead in shaping this vision, not just leaving it to IT or individual business units.
