Minami Family’s HR System: Edition 3 – How are we defining growth?

Minami Family’s HR System: Edition 3 – How are we defining growth?

Learning from our session last month (where timing is everything in feedback), we decided to hold our monthly review a little earlier this month.
To recap: This project is the implementation of an HR system for families, curated and executed by myself and my wife. The goal of this system isn’t to discipline, but to create systematic pathways for growth. With my vast experience with HR systems implementation, taking on this project felt like a good way to get back into the foundations of HR systems.

This week, my wife and I held the review for the month of April.

As per usual, we let the kids start with self-reflection on achievements and growth and also discuss some avenues for improvement.

Apart from the usual grading, we also looked at compensation and rewards this month.

The girls participated in a marathon and based on their commitment and result, were compensated. This goal is to acknowledge that first and foremost, all steps towards growth are acknowledged. And secondly, they will be rewarded for it. The idea of ‘bonuses’ is still new within them, but a great way for them to learn that they reap more rewards outside of te set guidelines they have.

On the grading side of things, I do feel that I can see more seriousness with this system. I see that this operation has more and more adherence month on month.

On the journey of implementing the system at home, I am constantly reminded of the pain points for both parties. Eventually, I reflect on the possible pain points of both management and employees in an organizational HR system.
