Last month, I launched my book “Global Lessons: A Page from Modern Japanese Human Resource Management”

This project has actually been in the works for the last year and a half.

Why did I decide to start this project?

Historically, Japanese companies have held the best business practices globally. I wanted to take a look at what role HRM played in this success.

What I came to realize with my research was that today, Japanese companies tend to adopt management strategies that were used globally. Sometimes, however, they are only beneficial for short term success and not as applicable when thinking about long term solutions.

When I first started thinking about this book, the original idea was to evaluate the different HRM strategies in Japan—their evolution and their effectiveness. I tried to understand the historic nature of Japanese style HRM by going through the trends of the last 100 years. This allowed me to compare my findings of Japanese-style human resource management with global practices.

This made me critically think about the comparisons between Japanese based and global companies and their strategies.

I hope my readers will find my book insightful and will spark some conversations around human resource management and beyond.
