Fast-growing organisations often discover that scaling a business is much easier than scaling alignment.
As companies grow quickly, especially with employees joining from different industries, backgrounds and work cultures, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a shared understanding of expectations, decision-making and organisational values.
I recently worked with ONE DEJIMA (ONE DEJIMA Co, Ltd.) in reviewing and refining the design of their HR system as they prepared for significant long-term expansion.
The company is operating in a highly dynamic environment connected to global logistics and strategic operations, with plans to grow to approximately ten times its current workforce size over the coming years.
In that kind of growth environment, HR systems cannot simply function as administrative structures. They need to help create consistency, clarity and sustainable organisational capability at scale.
One point from this project stood out clearly: strong HR systems are rarely created through one perspective alone.
The leadership team intentionally combined internal management discussions, external consulting support and independent advisory review in order to challenge assumptions, reduce bias and build a system that could realistically operate as the company grows.
For organisations scaling rapidly, HR system design increasingly becomes a business continuity issue, not just an HR initiative. The ability to align talent, organisational expectations and long-term capability development often determines whether growth remains sustainable over time.
